During the April 2023 to March 2024 year, we welcomed 27 new members to our area for a total of 358 physician members,

From April 2023 to March 2024, 15 family physicians participated in the attachment program, attaching 1115 patients,

During the April 2023 to March 2024 year we hosted 5 CME events, 3 PCN Team-Based Care events, 2 Long-Term Care events, 2 networking events, 1 MOA event, and 1 winter social event.

12 editions of the member newsletter were sent.

From April 1, 2022 to March 31, 2023, the Division Find a Family Doctor Program attached 2,597 patients to a family doctor or nurse practitioner.

21 physicians were recruited to longitudinal family practice.

15 physicians retired from longitudinal family practice.

Pathways continues to be an excellent clinical tool with over 100,320 local page views this year, providing information about local specialists and clinics, referral forms, physician resources and patient information handouts.

During the March 2021 to March 2022 year, we had 11 Newsletter editions.

From April 2021 to March 2022, we were fortunate enough to recruit 6 full-time Physicians, and 5
Locum Physicians. -
We also had 12 Physicians retire from April 2021 to March 2022.

From March 2021 to March 2022, we have attached 3,772 patients and we will continue our efforts to attach as many patients as practitioner capacity allows. Since July 2021, our program has had a waitlist of patients due to the limited number of physicians able to attach.

From March 2020 to March 2021, we were fortunate enough to recruit 14 full-time Physicians, 3
part-time Physicians and 3 Locum Physicians. We also had 7 Physicians retire and we are
expecting higher-than-usual retirements in 2021 -
We are always reviewing and improving our “Red Carpet” recruitment program including our
recruitment advertisements on HealthMatch and our Central Okanagan Division website -
From March, 2020 to March 2021, we have attached 5,592 patients with a family doctor and will continue our efforts to attach as many patients as capacity allows. We are looking to move the program from a paper/mail/fax base program to an online HIPAA-compliant form. Mail and fax will remain an option for community residents who need it.

June 2019 - March 2020

From June 2019 to March 2020, we recruited 12 full-time & 1 part-time Physician and 3 Locum Physicians, during this same time 12 Physicians retired.

The Find a Family Doctor program attached 3,042 people between June, 2019 to March 2020.

Pathways continues to be an important clinical tool, with over 400 Central Okanagan users accessing an average of 1800 page views every week this year.

By January 2020, the Streamlining LTC Admission Process Project was fully implemented.

The Ministry of Health endorsed and approved the Central Okanagan Primary Care Network (PCN) plan in January 2020. Our PCN plan includes an investment of 37 Nurses and 19 Allied Health team members over a 3-year period.

The Division has transitioned from a non-profit society to a co-operative organization.

Recruitment efforts for November 2018 to March 2019 has seen 4 FT GP’s added to the Division attaching patients and 3 FT GPs recruited to start later in 2019

Continuing to improve on the “Red Carpet” program for physician recruitment created to assist visiting physicians looking for Family Practice opportunities.

The NEW “Find A Family Doctor” program began on August 16th, 2018. This was created from the base idea of the “A GPforMe” program. Our aim is to have capacity to attach between 5,000 and 10,000 people to family physicians.

The Community Services section of Pathways has been refined to support primary care providers in the growing trend of social prescribing. Public access to Community Services to launch in the fall of 2019 for Central Okanagan users.

This year was the final year of "A GP for Me" Program (2013-2017).

​Over 1700 seniors were attached to family physicians during the implementation of the Mobile Assessment Unit prior to it closing in March 2017

From the start of the Long Term Care Initiative (previously called RCI) in September 2015, there has been a steady increase in participating doctors (68% to 82%) who agree to work toward the 5 best practices.

Pathways was implemented in the Central Okanagan Division this year. Successes include: 154 specialists entered into the data base, 99 Family practitioner surveyed and entered, 97 active users.

Continued collaboration with partners towards the goal of lasting change on inactivity levels using Exercise is Medicine and the Exercise Prescription. As of March 31, 2016 the year-end total is 251 prescriptions written. The grand total since Rx Ex inception is 352 prescriptions written by 72 GP’s. (Oct 2014 to March 2016)

This year GPSC launched the "A GP For Me" initiative (GP4ME).

We partnered with local psychiatrists to improve access to one-time psychiatric services and with Gastroenterologists to improve triage and waitlist management for colon screening and GI referrals.

We initiated an innovative pilot test to improve access to Dermatology using online technology.

Our community continues to benefit from improved access to diagnostic imaging such as CT, U/S and MRI.

Welcome to the first Central Okanagan Division of Family Practice Annual Report. Since incorporating in July 2010, it has become clear that together we can make a positive difference to primary health care through hard work and partnerships with our health authority and community.

We have begun to accomplish many good things including improved access to diagnostic imaging for urgent case management, increased parking for physicians who maintain privileges at Kelowna General Hospital, group purchasing prices for office supplies, and continuing medical education events.

Looking ahead, there will be many other opportunities to improve patient care while supporting our community of GPs to create a sustainable healthcare system for us all.
